Kissing Masks (2010) is based on photographs taken near the end of the H1N1 swine flu pandemic showing couples kissing while wearing medical masks. Moreno translated these images into drawings that hold intimacy and obstruction in the same frame, where physical closeness is visible but partially denied by the barrier of the mask.
The drawings were installed beneath a suspended web of white medical masks. As viewers moved through the space, light cast the masks' shadows onto the drawings and onto the viewers themselves, extending the tension between proximity and separation into the gallery environment.
